Abstract

|
The most commom Class 2 malocclusion is one that is caused by an underlying Class 2 skeletal discrepancy. The Class 2 malocclusion that is present in an individual with a normal skeletal jaw relationship is less frequent and caused by forward movement during dental development of the maxillary molar relative to the mandibular molars. This less common condition may be unilateral or bilateral in presentation. There are two alternatives for treatment of the dental Class 2 malocclusion : a nonextraction approach involving distal movement of the maxillary teeth and the extraction approach involving unilateral or bilateral extractions.
This study describes the diagnosis and treatment of Class 2 malocclusion with the illustrations of clinical cases.
